Zion National Park is open 24 hours a day year round. The majority of visitors come between April and September. Visitor numbers are highest on weekends and holidays with Easter, Memorial Day and Labor Day being the busiest. You can buy your National Park pass in advance online to save time at the entrance stations.
June and July are the busiest months and parking lots in Zion often fill to capacity during this time. From early-spring until late-fall, riding the shuttle bus is the only way to visit Zion Canyon.
Ideally, enter the park early in the morning or late in the afternoon as temperatures are cooler and the light is better for taking photographs. You can also return to the park after dark to stargaze.
Zion is known for a wide range of weather conditions and temperatures vary with changes in elevation.
Spring and fall are the best times to visit with mild temperatures and conditions favorable for hiking.
Summer can see highs of 100°F and afternoon thunderstorms are not uncommon.
September days are typically sunny and warm. Mid-September can also see some monsoons and increased risk of flash floods.
Nearly half of the annual precipitation in Zion Canyon falls between the months of December and March. Winter snowfall adds to the already amazing scenery. Winter is good for off-season hotel rates and Christmas is a particular popular time to visit.
Always check for the latest conditions on the National Parks Service website or at the park visitors center before starting your visit.
