Explore a majestic alpine valley and relax in natural hot springs, at a unique outpost in the Colorado Rockies.
The landscapes and history of the American Southwest lure adventurers from across the globe, and there are few better places to experience them than Dunton Hot Springs and River Camp.
Once a ghost town, this 19th Century mining settlement has been carefully restored as an off-the-grid resort that is an ideal base for riding, fishing, rafting, mountain biking, and exploring the wilderness. After a day of adventure, relax at the spa and then dine at the saloon on chef-prepared regional cuisine and fine wines. Your meals and drinks are included.
If you want to be closer to nature, Dunton River Camp’s safari-style tents position you 20 feet from the Dolores River and among peaceful meadows and forest. You’ll find everything you’d expect from a quality hotel. In the evening get cosy around the firepit, have an evening drink at the camp’s own bar, or unwind at the riverside sauna.
Activities
Take one of the resort’s horses for a ride in the high Rockies, explore the local trails by bike, go fishing in the private waters of the Dolores River, or join Dunton’s expert guides for hiking and mountaineering the high San Juan Mountains. If you prefer more serene activities, take an archaeological tour of the desert or advance your photography and art skills with help from local instructors. At the end of the day, soak in the warm bicarbonate-enriched waters of the springs, either at the source or in Dunton’s pools and bathhouses.
Getting there
Guests typically fly to Denver or Phoenix and then on to Cortez Airport (CEZ) or Durango (DRO), before taking a car transfer or rental car to Dunton.
