Best places to stay near Zion National Park & Bryce Canyon National Park Field Guide
Hello and welcome to the Follow That Moose Field Guides. In this edition we’re going to look at the best places to stay near Zion National Park. We’ll also take a quick look at the best places to stay near Bryce Canyon National Park as these two parks are often combined on the same itinerary.
There’s a really good variety and high standard of places to stay near Zion National Park. Infact, I’d say Zion has some of the best places to stay in Utah.
Let's get started with a quick orientation.
You could stay at Zion Lodge inside the park but most visitors will choose to stay outside the park boundary. The town of Springdale is considered the gateway to Zion National Park, and rightly so. Springdale’s Zion Park Boulevard leads you right up to the entrance gate of Zion National Park making it an incredibly convenient base.
Most of Zion's lodging options can be found along Springdales Zion Park Boulevard. Noteworthy options are the Cliffrose, Cable Mountain Lodge and Flanigan's Inn. You’ll also find a small selection of B&B’s and firm favorites like Best Western Plus, Holiday Inn and SpringHill Suites by Mariott. All these lodgings are no more than a thirty minute walk to the Zion National Park Visitor Center and entry booths or you can hop on the free shuttle bus that picks up and drops off at various points along Zion Park Boulevard.

Springdale also has a number of restaurants and bars. Zion Canyon Brew Pub is just outside the park entrance so you won’t have to go far for a well earned drink after your hike.
There are also two general stores with a good selection of groceries and provisions.
The Cliffrose & Cable Mountain Lodge are as close as you can get to Zion without actually staying inside the park. Both are only a few minutes walk to the Visitor Center and entry booths. I’d also consider these hotels to be at the luxury end of the market too.

A little further along Springdales Zion Park Boulevard but still under ten minutes walk from the Visitor Center and entry booths, you’ll find Flanigan's Inn.
I chose Flanigan’s as my base when I visited Zion with my family and it turned out to be an excellent choice. After a hectic week on the road touring Grand Canyon, Monument Valley and Arches National Park we’d planned to have some downtime at Zion. We were also going to be there over Christmas and wanted our own space. The thought of spending five nights over Christmas with two adults and two teenagers in a hotel room really didn’t appeal.
Fortunately that's when I discovered Flanigan's Inn. As well as having standard rooms, Flanigan's also has two villas which are standalone houses located across the road from the main hotel. The villa was perfect for our family of four and allowed us the flexibility to come and go as we pleased and spend time together while still having our own space.
Zion was impressive but so was the villa. It’s not very often that I arrive at a hotel and find that my expectations are exceeded! The villa looked great on the Flanigan's website but was even better in real life.
We had a lounge with TV, sofas and a fireplace where we had family movie nights. There was a good size kitchen with everything we needed to prepare our own meals plus a BBQ and ample outdoor space. The red rock views from every window were magnificent and the Flanigan's staff were always on hand and more than happy to help when required.

We also found the Best Western Plus hotels to be good for families. Our room at the Best Western Plus Bryce Canyon had two queen beds and a sofa bed so a couple plus two children or teenagers can all be comfortably accommodated. A fridge and microwave also helped keep costs down as we could store and prepare basic meals in the room.
You can also wake up to Zion’s iconic red-rock landscape in a classic Airstream or a safari inspired tent with all your home comforts and the finishing touches of a boutique hotel like luxury linens, coffee makers and private bathrooms.
Under Canvas are leading the way in traditional safari-inspired tent glamping and have sites at Zion and Bryce Canyon National Parks. Tents can sleep between 2 to 7 people depending on the style and configuration; some with private bathrooms, all with wood burning stoves and communal fire pits with complimentary S’mores. Breakfast, picnic lunches and dinner are also available on site.
AutoCamps modern Airstream suites and luxury tents come with modern bathrooms, walk-in showers, luxury linens, kitchen area with mini refrigerator and microwave plus a private patio with grill, firepit, and dining area.

Under Canvas Zion and AutoCamp Zion are about a thirty minute drive to the visitor Center and entry booths but you’ll be closer to the quieter areas of the park and plenty of activities are also available on site.
It’s worth mentoning that many glamping sites are seasonal and close during the colder months so check before making travel plans.
If you’re looking to camp or park your RV, Zion River Resort comes highly recommended. The resort is about a fifteen minute drive to the Zion visitor center and entry booths.
I did say we’d also take a quick look at the best places to stay near Bryce Canyon National Park. Safari style tent glamping is available at Under Canvas Bryce Canyon but if you’re looking for more traditional lodging the Best Western Plus Bryce Canyon and Ruby's Inn are great options. Both are only a short drive to the Visitor Center and entry booths making them incredibly convenient for accessing the park.
